Details on RI Community Day

Raffles Institution celebrates its 185th anniversary in 2008 and a series of events has been organized to mark this occasion.

One of these is the RI Community Day on Thursday 20 March 2008. This school day set aside for all staff and students to do service not only for the community but also as a community and we involved our partners such as alumni and parents.

RI Community Day reaffirmed the school's commitment to serving the community and also reminded our boys about the importance of dedicating themselves to the common good in whatever they do.

It was also a platform for our boys to independently plan and carry out a Community Involvement project that they themselves were passionate about as the leaders of all core Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) groups in the school identified and organized a Community Involvement project for their own members and teachers (under the guidance of students from the school's Interact Club).

Examples of projects: Painting of a wall mural at the Handicaps Welfare Association, service at the SIA-MINDS Employment Development Centre, concert performances for Tanglin Special School and Toa Payoh Care Corner and running of reading, drama and autism awareness workshops at local primary schools.

Special thanks to RADM (Ret) Kwek Siew Jin for gracing the occasion as our Guest of Honour.

The school raised over $55,000 through the ORA donation cards for the charities we reached out to on RI Community Day.
