Rugby
Description
Rugby shares over a century of tradition with Raffles history. Raffles Institution was the first school to take up the sport and incidentally, rugby was the first game to be played at Raffles Institution. Up until 1953/4, Rugby in Raffles was played purely on an intra-school basis. In 1954, our first rugby team took to the field and participated in the two main tournaments, the Singapore Cricket Club 7-a-side and the National 15-a-side.
Through the years, Raffles has gained a reputation as one of the premier schools of rugby in Singapore, producing many talented players and leaders for the national squad. Many of our country's leaders had also represented Raffles Institution in their days as students.
