Raffles Voices
Description
The Choir of Raffles Institution, formally known as Raffles Voices was founded in 1992 by Ms Charmaine Chiang. Since then, it has grown into a 80 Member strong SATB all-boys choir, which tackles a myriad of musical genres, ranging from Classical Works to Modern Compositions. It has since attained a high standard throughout the years.
Raffles Voices participates in a wide range of choral competitions, ranging from the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging to overseas musical festivals. Recently in 2006, Raffles Voices obtained a Gold award in the 16th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music (held in Prague) and another a Gold award and special prize for Dramaturgy in the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music (held in Bratislava). In 2007, Raffles Voices was awarded a Gold award in the SYF central judging.
Apart from our rehearsals, Raffles Voices also organizes various camps and exchanges with choirs locally and internationally. To allow each singer to further his or her exploration in music, there are various small group student bodies under our choir, where singers showcase their talents in song writing, composition and also discover varied genres of music.
In 2010, Raffles Voices is proud to be invited again to perform at the Esplanade Concert Hall in July under the Limelight Series. RV is also looking forward to its highly anticipated 8th international competition tour to Austria and Slovenia in November.
To date, Raffles Voices has toured the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Hawaii, Czech and Slovak Republic. In the many years to come, Raffles Voices will be continually organizing overseas trips, various camps, showcase platforms and many other programmes to develop each member holistically while furthering their achievments both in Singapore and beyond. We invite all interested students to join our family of singers!
