Cricket

Description

Cricket was the first sport played in Raffles Institution. It continued to be played until the late 1960s when it was discontinued as a sport by the School Sports Council. It was re-introduced in 1993 by Mr. Eugene Wijeysingha, Headmaster of RI at the time, although it was not yet accorded the status of a core CCA by the School Sports Council. The game returned to the list of core CCAs only in 1998. The sport has a wide following in the school and is immensely popular with the boys. Emerging as B division champions in 1999, 2004 and 2005 and as C division champions in 2006 and 2007 is a testament to RI's strength in cricket.
