Buckley

Description

Buckley House got its name from C.B. Buckley, who was the Secretary to the Board of Trustees from 1883 to 1900. Buckley had been a true friend of the school. He was a resident of Singapore for fifty years. He came to Singapore in 1864 and was attached to the firm of A.L. Johnston for 11 years. In the meantime he took up company law. He then resigned from A.L. Johnston and joined the firm of Rodyk and Davidson. Later he became assistant to Thomas Braddell, then Attorney-General. He later served as confidential adviser to the Sultan of Johore.

Buckley was very interested in the welfare of the school children in Singapore. He was popularly known as the "children's friend" and his annual Christmas party for children was attended by as many as 1000 children. It was a delightful feature of every Christmas celebration in Singapore.
