Boys' Brigade

Description

The Boys' Brigade, the world's first uniformed organisation for youth, was started by Sir William Alexander Smith in 1883. He was knighted by King Edward VII in July 1909 for his work in The Boys' Brigade. The BB operates in all Commonwealth countries and in Asian countries such as Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau and Philippines. The BB also has kindred organisations in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Caribbean Islands, African continent and the Scandinavian countries.

The 60th Singapore Boys’ Brigade is home to Raffles Institution. Since its inauguration on 13 March 1991, RIBB has grown from strength to strength through the years. Today, its enrolment stands at 86. Though still young as a BB unit, RIBB has already attained high standing within the BB movement. Indeed, it has done remarkably well with its solid record of having won the JM Fraser Gold Award since 1999. In the same period, it has also produced more than 57 Founder’s Men, the highest award for a BB boy in the Senior Programme. The Bagpipe Band, which was formed in 2004, captured the first Runners-up title at the Pipes and Drums Festival 2007 – a remarkable feat with three years of music making!
