Basketball
Description
INTRODUCTION
RI Basketball is one of the few CCAs that is run entirely by old boys, who are willing to give back to the school even after their era has gone by. RI Basketball has been consistently clinching top places in zone and national competitions as well as bringing back honour for the school. Now, the team is more united than ever and hopes to continue or better these achievements.
MORE ABOUT RI BASKETBALL...
Raffles Basketball has always consisted of enthusiastic, dedicated and never-say-die players and coaches. Out of this group has come an illustrious history of events, stories and the production of outstanding basketballers for both school and country.
This year once again the team has been training hard under the watchful eye of Mr Poh Yeang Cherng (team coach) and will be using our strengths and team spirit to tackle our rival schools.
Additionally, every year, Old Boys' of Raffles Basketball gather either at the current RI or RJC campus for the holding of the Gryphons Cup: an inter-batch tournament organized by selected batches of basketballers who have graduated for all Old Boys of Raffles Basketball to take part in and thus ensuring Raffles Basketball to be not only a mere CCA within the school but instead, one big family of basketballers of all ages, abilities and graduating years.
Batches of basketballers of the CCA are each assigned one of the four colours: Red, Black, Blue and Yellow. For example, the graduating batch of 2008 is also know as Blacks'08, followed by Blue'09, Yellow'10 and so on. The four colours are rotated every four years such that the next batch to be 'Black' would be Blacks'12; RI's secondary four basketballers of the year 2012 in this case. Such a scheme promotes intra-batch bonding within batchmates and also gives them a sense of identity making each batch of basketballers unique and different from both their senior and junior batches.
