Badminton
Description
Badminton, as a competitive sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, strength, and speed. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racket skills.
Raffles Institution Badminton Team [RIBT] consistently makes it to at least the National Schools Quarter-finals each year. In 2007, we surpassed expectations to clinch the U-14 championships. The last time RIBT had won its gold was seven years before. We are proud to be the first team in recent times to have won it with a team comprising only of locally-groomed talents.
Our coach, Mr Hamid Khan, an experienced former international player and ex-Director of Coaching in the Singapore Badminton Association, exacts a challenging routine each week that brings out the peak potential in all our players. Furthermore the teachers, in collaboration with the coach, ensure that the RI Badminton programme develops in our boys the strength in character and the right attitude towards sports as well as the academics.
Every boy is exposed to as much competition as possible. He will also go for an overseas training stint at least once in his four years at RI. This is because it is through adversity that a boy’s true character is revealed and then can be nurtured. At RIBT, we nurture chivalrous gentlemen who will exhibit loyalty, courage and honor in their actions. To us, this is more important than just winning!
